How the Apple SIM Card Works Outside The U.S.- If there are no participating providers in your country, simply purchase a SIM card from any Cellular network and swap out the Apple SIM. Every country has different participating providers that connect via the Apple SIM card. When overseas, you will be able to see the choices of carriers from your Ipad. HOW THE APPLE SIM CARD WORKS IN THE US - In the United States, you do not have to use the Apple SIM card. If your carrier does not have an option to activate via the Apple SIM, the tablet will work with their SIM cards (except Verizon). Most Verizon store's will only activate iPads bought from Verizon. Check with your local Verizon rep if you intend on using their service. The Apple SIM card (included), will allow you to activate the Ipad with Sprint, ATT, or T-Mobile. Once the Ipad turns on, it will give you options of carriers to activate with directly from the device. Verizon chose not to participate in the Apple SIM card program. Therefore, in order to activate the tablet on Verizons network, you will have to get a SIM card directly from Verizon. Check with your local Verizon store to see if this option is available as policy varies depending on the location. ATT Activation: Once the Apple SIM is activated with ATT, it cannot be used on any other network. ATT will lock the Apple SIM to their network. In order to switch to a different carrier, you will have to buy another Apple SIM or a SIM card from the carrier you want use. ATT will not accept an Apple SIM card that has already been activated on another network. In order to switch the Ipad to ATT, you will have to buy a SIM card from them or purchase a new Apple SIM card.
